Yusuke Urameshi has been found dead on the street after rescuing a child. However, it takes him a while to remember how his day went.
Today, Yusuke had gone to school, which is rare for him. Even his childhood friend Kayko complains about the poor attendance record overall that he gives their class. Some teachers are not exactly happy about Yusuke being there, because he is the worst punk in the school. However, he gets irritated by all of the teachers and decides to leave the school.
Noticing that he got back early, he mother starts lecturing him, which makes Yusuke even more irriated and takes a walk outside. There he encounters the second worst punk in the school, Kuwabara, and utterly defeats him in a fight.
However, Yusuke's life changes when he sees a little boy playing with a soccer ball. Yusuke warns him to not play in the streets, but the boy continues to do so.
Suddenly, as the little tries to retrieve the soccer that he was playing with from the street, a car is speeding towards him. Noticing the danger, Yusuke rushes towards the boy and pushes him out of the way. Upon remembering these events and that he can see his body on the ground, he discovers he dead.
Botan, a grim reaper/pilot of the river styx, appears to confirm his guess and tells Yusuke about an ordeal to get his life back. Will Ysuke accept the offer?
