After escaping from the police, Shinichi finds out for himself that he has been shrunk. He then runs home and meets Dr. Agasa (last name has been kept in the U.S. version) outside of his house. However, the doctor does not believe him, at first, to be Shinichi.
After convincing Dr Agasa of his true identity, they go into Shinichi's house. There, they discuss the details about the poison while Shinichi changes clothes. He has no idea what the poison is or who the men in black are, but Shinichi decides to track down Gin and Vodka, in order to get the poison and find an antidote. Luckily for him, Ran, who's father is also a detective, starts shouting for Shinichi. He tries to hide in the library of his house, that Agasa and him are conversing in, while he tries to find a disguise, but Ran finds him. When she asks for his name, because she does not know it is really Shinichi, he gives her the name Conan Edogawa (this name also has not been changed in the U.S. dub).
From that point on, Dr. Agasa convinces Shinichi to live with Ran.
Soon, things start heating up, when Kogoro Mouri (Richard Moore), Ran's father, gets a case. He gives the description of a kidnapper dressed all in black. Shinichi, thinking that Gin and Vodka are involved, jumps into the taxi with Kogoro and heads to the scene of the crime.
At the scene, a company president tells Kogoro what had happened and Shinichi tries to get involved in the case.
At first, they think that the butler kidnapped the daughter, but they did not know the kidnapping involving him was a fake. However, Shinichi does figure out that the girl was kidnapped twice, when the other kidnapper calls.
Going off of the Information he received from the girl describing what she sees and how much time passed, Shinichi takes one of the guard dogs at the residents of the company president around many different schools, until he realizes that the girl had mistaken a building for a chimney.
When he finally arrives at the correct place, he tries to unleash the dog on the kidnapper, while he removes the duct tape from the girl's mouth. However, the dog is beaten off, forcing Shinichi to take him on, but Shinichi soon learns that not only has his body shrunk, but his strength has disappeared too.
Things start looking really bleak for Shinichi, until Ran blocks the blow that was to kill him. Using her karate skills, she knocks the kidnapper unconscious.
Sometime later, Shinichi starts elementary school all over again.
